The prospective Marriage visa
A Prospective Marriage visa, also known as a fiancé visa, is a temporary visa that allows the holder to enter Australia to marry their prospective spouse who is an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen. This visa is suitable for those who are planning to get married and stay in Australia with their partner.
The Prospective Marriage visa subclass is 300. It allows the holder to stay in Australia for up to nine months and during this time, they can travel, work, and study in Australia. After marriage, the holder can apply for a Partner visa, which is a permanent visa.
To be eligible for a Prospective Marriage visa, the applicant must:
- Be outside Australia
- Intend to marry their partner within 9 months of entering Australia
- Be sponsored by their partner who is an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen
- Meet health and character requirements
- Meet the age requirement (must be 18 years or older)
- Meet the genuine and continuing relationship requirement
The processing time for a Prospective Marriage visa varies depending on individual circumstances and the time taken to provide necessary information and documentation. However, the standard processing time for this visa is between 12 to 18 months.
